Kristian Firth of GC Strategies Found in Contempt of Parliament

RCMP Searches Office Linked to ArriveCan Contractor

Firth to be Censured for Refusing to Answer Questions

OTTAWA, Canada - Kristian Firth, a partner with GC Strategies, has been found in contempt of Parliament for refusing to answer questions about his company's involvement with the ArriveCan app. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) also searched an office linked to Firth and GC Strategies on Tuesday.

Firth appeared before a House of Commons committee on October 2022 and repeatedly refused to answer questions about GC Strategies' work on ArriveCan. Parliamentarians agreed to a motion on Monday that found Firth to be in contempt of Parliament.

In a statement, the RCMP said it searched an office in Ottawa linked to Firth and GC Strategies as part of an ongoing investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.

Firth is scheduled to be called to the bar of the House of Commons next week to be censured for his refusal to answer questions. This will be a rare use of this procedure, which is typically reserved for serious breaches of Parliament's authority.

Firth and GC Strategies have been criticized for their role in the development of ArriveCan, which has been plagued by technical problems. The app is mandatory for travelers entering Canada and has been criticized for being difficult to use and for collecting excessive personal information.
