Albania scores the fastest goal in Euros history
Bajrami's strike after just 23 seconds sets new record
Dortmund, Germany -- Albania has scored the fastest goal in European Championship history, with Nedim Bajrami finding the net after just 23 seconds in their opening Euro 2024 game against Italy on Sunday.
The goal came after a mistake from Italy defender Federico Dimarco, who played the ball straight to Bajrami on the edge of the box. The Albanian forward took a touch and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
The goal is the fastest in Euros history, breaking the previous record of 25 seconds, set by Russia's Dmitri Kirichenko against Greece in 2004. It is also the fastest goal in any major international tournament since Miroslav Klose scored for Germany against Saudi Arabia in the 2002 World Cup.
Bajrami's goal gave Albania a dream start to their Euro 2024 campaign. The Albanians are making their first appearance at the tournament and will be hoping to cause an upset in Group A, which also includes France and Switzerland.
