"He is behaving fantastically": Marseille president defends controversial signing of Mason Greenwood

Amidst public outcry, Marseille president Pablo Longoria has defended the club's decision to sign Mason Greenwood, a player previously accused of assault.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault of his girlfriend. He was later released on bail and is currently awaiting trial. Manchester United suspended him indefinitely, and he has not played since.

Longoria, however, believes that Greenwood deserves a second chance.

"He is a young player who made a mistake," Longoria said. "We believe that he has learned from his mistake and that he is committed to becoming a better person and a better player."

Greenwood's signing has been met with widespread criticism. Many fans and pundits believe that it is wrong to sign a player who has been accused of such serious crimes.

However, Longoria insists that Marseille have done their due diligence and that they are confident that Greenwood is not a danger to anyone.

"We have spoken to him at length," Longoria said. "We have spoken to his family. We have spoken to his lawyer. We have spoken to people who know him well. And we are confident that he is a good person who made a mistake."

Only time will tell whether Longoria's faith in Greenwood is justified. But for now, the Marseille president is standing by his decision.
