Dallas Power Play Makes The Difference

Stars Defeat Avalanche in Game 3, Take Lead in Western 2nd Round

Dallas' Power Play Makes the Difference

Avalanche Face Uphill Battle to Avoid Elimination

The Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round on Thursday night at Ball Arena. The win gives the Stars a 2-1 lead in the series. The Stars scored two power-play goals in the first period, including one by Jason Robertson just 1:37 into the game. Dallas also got a goal from Joe Pavelski in the second period and an empty-netter from Roope Hintz in the third. Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves, but he was unable to match the performance of Stars goalie Jake Oettinger, who stopped 34 shots. The Avalanche have now lost three straight games after winning the first two games of the series. They will need to win Game 4 on Saturday night in Denver to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole. "We're in a tough spot right now," said Avalanche coach Jared Bednar. "But we've been here before. We've got to find a way to win Game 4."
