Scotland’s Euro hopes still alive after battling Switzerland draw
Scotland remain in contention to reach the knockout stages of Euro 2020 after battling to a draw with Switzerland in their Group D opener.
The Scots, who are competing in their first major tournament since 1998, produced a spirited display against the Swiss in Baku.
Lyndon Dykes’ towering header cancelled out Breel Embolo’s early strike to earn Scotland a share of the spoils.
It was a hard-fought point for Scotland, who were forced to defend deep for long periods against a talented Swiss side.
But Steve Clarke’s men showed great character and determination to dig deep and earn a result.
The draw means Scotland are now second in Group D, behind the Czech Republic who beat Croatia 1-0 in the other match.
Scotland will now face the Czech Republic in their next match on Friday, while Switzerland will take on Croatia.
